Teams and Channels
All Channel notifications are defaulted to off. To ensure proper communication is received it is expected that you will change the "all new posts" settings to "banner and feed" instead of "off" for the general channel and any others that your manager requires.
One key functionality of Microsoft Teams is "Teams". Many areas within the department have their own teams, each of which is made up of channels, including a "general" channel for general announcements, files, and information for the entire team.
This page will show you how to manage channels and use them to best help your work within Dining Services.
Accessing Channels
A channel can be accessed by clicking on the "Teams" icon on the bottom. Then select the Team that has the channel you want. This will open up an additional sidebar that shows the different channels. Select the one that you want.

Pinning Channels
Pinning a channel will allow it to be at the top of your list, regardless of the activity in the other channels. This makes it easy to find the channel if you use it often.
- On the desktop version of Teams, you will need to make sure you are in the "List" view rather than the "Grid" view.
- If you are using the "Grid" view, the option to pin a channel will not show up.
- This is changed by selecting the "Switch View" setting on the "All Teams" screen.
- Once you enter the settings, select the "List" view and exit out.
- If you are already on "List" view, you can change the view by finding the settings at the bottom of the pop-up sidebar window when you click on "Teams".
- Once you are in "List" view, click on the "Teams" sidebar option to pull up the Teams and Channels you are a part of.
- Then, select the three dots next to the channel that you want to pin and select "Pin".
To unpin a channel, click on the three dots next to the pinned channel and select "Unpin".
