Employee Classes and Certifications Policy

POLICY

In alignment with Brigham Young University’s Employee Tuition Benefit Policy, Dining Services provides the following clarifications:

Employees must obtain prior approval from their supervisor and director before attending classes or trainings that occur during scheduled work hours. 

PROCEDURE

Employee Request

Each semester, the employee must submit a written request using the Employee Tuition Benefit Authorization at least two weeks prior to the class, certification, or training.  

The request must include: 

  • Course or Training Name 
  • Dates and Times of Attendance
  • Funding Request from Dining Services (If Applicable) 

Supervisor Review 

The supervisor reviews the request to determine feasibility based on scheduling and operational needs. 

Director Review 

The director reviews the request to determine feasibility based on scheduling and operational needs. 

Notification

Once a decision is made, the director communicates the approval or denial to their downline, including the employee's supervisor and department manager.

Documentation

Approved requests should be kept on file by the supervisor for reference and compliance.
