Employee Breaks Policy

Policy

Taking breaks improves both employee productivity and business efficiency. Because of this, BYU Dining Services gives employees a twenty-minute break when working five or more hours in one day. If an employee is a minor, they are given a thirty-minute break starting no later than five hours from the beginning of their shift, along with a ten-minute break every three hours of their shift. Employees must clock out for any break longer than twenty minutes. Employees may not accumulate break periods for their benefit.

Supervisors will determine when their employees should take their breaks. Managers may develop a break policy to provide appropriate additional breaks for employees in their area.
